Modernising data collection and regulatory oversight with XBRL

This case study explores how Bolsa Mexicana de Valores implemented XBRL as a core part of its reporting infrastructure, following Mexico’s adoption of IFRS and the need to replace an ageing metadata-driven reporting system. It covers BMV’s implementation journey, project governance, taxonomy management, filer engagement, data processing, and the use of XBRL filings for regulatory supervision, market transparency, and value-added data services. The case study also highlights key outcomes, including faster onboarding, improved data quality, reduced reporting burden, automated validations, and stronger collaboration between BMV, the national regulator CNBV, issuers, and technology provider.
